Marie J. Desonier State Nature Preserve, with 502 acres, is located on Jordan Run in Deep Hollow. This tract was a gift from the Desonier family (locally pronounced "deh-soh-NEER"). There is a 2.2-mile loop trail, the Oak Ridge Trail, circling the property, with a short side spur on top of the ridge. This preserve is one of the few places where the meadow spikemoss, Selaginella apoda, may be found growing.
To get there from Athens, go east on US-50 to County Road 56, Brimstone Road, and turn left (there is a state sign posted at the junction on the highway). Loop around and take your second left, at a half-mile, which is unmarked, on Deep Hollow Road, which is a gravel road.
