Athens County Invasive Exotics Control Program
Kudzu, Pueraria lobata

Kudzu is an amazingly vigorously-growing woody vine that will literally grow over the tops of mature trees, and will completely blanket an area with vines to the positive death of all other plants. Of eastern Asian origina, it is a critically serious problem throughout the American south. It has been steadily moving north and now is represented in the Athens area by several serious infestations.

Eradication tips:

Goat grazing is a great way to provide interim control of kudzu. Otherwise, cut the vines above ground and apply concentrated herbicide directly to the cut ends above the roots. This plant is virtually impossible to pull.
