Why is spending time outdoors important to you?
I grew up salmon fishing and camping; it was always a special family time. Being able to go outdoors with others to make memorable times. (But sadly no salmon fishing here.)
What’s your perfect outdoors-kind-of-day?
Well, it would involve camping … good coffee and a sunrise in the morning. And not too many biting bugs.
Advice for someone new to exploring nature?
Don’t worry about covering a hundred miles. Some of the best hikes I’ve been on were a mere 100 inches. Whole new worlds open up when you look at things at a different scale or with a different sense.
Cat or dog person?
I’ve always been fond of wombats… I have cats, they’re more wombatty than dogs. Though I have had some awesome dogs, named after salmon rivers.
Hidden gem in southeast Ohio?
The outdoor terrace of Little Fish. The view of the wetlands and hills is lovely. And after a great beer, take a walk to watch the birds!
Why is protecting land around us so important?
Climate change. Our woods are so important to the resilience of our area. Nature is also important for our resilience in doing the important work conserving our beautiful home.
