Cooper Hollow
Wildlife Area

Like many of Ohio's wildlife areas, Cooper Hollow consists of former coal-mining lands. This wildlife area features abundant wetlands, as well as low hills and many rock outcrops along stream banks.

There also is an old iron furnace at Cooper Hollow. It can be reached via a short mown trail from a small parking area, which also provides access to another trail. The parking area is on a dead-end road that terminates at the area's maintenance complex.

To reach Cooper Hollow, take OH-32 miles 30 west from US-33 at Athens to OH-327. Turn left on OH-327 and go 7.4 miles. OH-327 will go under US-35 and turn left onto the on-ramp, but you will continue straight on CH&D Road a short distance to the stopsign at Dixon Run Road. Turn right and go a very short distance to turn left again on CH&D Road. This will take you through the wildlife area from 3.0 to 4.4 miles past Dixon Run Road. The furnace and maintenance complex will be to the right at 4.0 miles. Lake at Cooper Hollow
