Bison Hollow
Preserve

AOA Bison Hollow Page
Bison Hollow Preserve, with 177 acres (72 hectares), spans the Hocking-Vinton County line. It is owned by the Appalachia Ohio Alliance, and consists of three purchases so far - one in Hocking County and two in Vinton. It represents the southernmost exposure of the blackhand sandstone, which is the rock formation that makes the spectacular cliffs and other rock features of the Hocking Hills. It is reputed to be one of the last known sites for the eastern woodland bison, which is a subspecies that's now extinct. The Alliance hopes to add to and enlarge this preserve. It is hoped that it can be the host to part of the Buckeye Trail in the future.

We have not given directions for this preserve. It is very close to Ash Cave. Please contact the Appalachia Ohio Alliance for permission before entering this preserve. The email is aoalt@earthlink.net.
