Cackley Swamp is located in Madison Township in Jackson County, northeast of Oak Hill, Ohio, and southwest of Cooper Hollow Wildlife Area. It is an extension of the swamps of the Cooper Hollow area, and is in the Symmes Creek drainage. Acquisition of additional land for this preserve is active and ongoing. Much of the land acquired was done so with a grant from the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Some of the land was acquired by the Ohio Valley Conservation Coalition and transferred to the Appalachia Ohio Alliance.

Directions to Cackley Swamp

To reach Cackley Swamp Preserve from Athens, take OH-32 west 37 miles from US-33 to OH-93. Take the OH-93 exit and turn left. Go 8.5 miles to Pyro Road, County Road 49. Turn left on Pyro Road. The preserve begins at 1.4 miles on the right, and extends to CH&D Road, then south along that road (to the right) for another 0.5 mile. Total driving distance from Athens: 47 miles.
